BigWorld has been commercially licensing to game developers since 2004 and we are now seeing our second generation of licensees come to market. BigWorld Technology has been built on the solid foundation of nearly ten years of software development focused exclusively on the massive online gaming and virtual worlds markets. There are over forty commercial projects in development or launched using BigWorld Technology.

...for the casual enthusiast and the industrious collective, this is the most inexpensive but also the most limited license. We provide you with pre-compiled tools, the Python source to our Fantasy Demo and related assets. The license allows you to essentially play with the environment and re-skin it, introducing models of your own and modifying some of the basic combat, game rules and terms. Although you don't get access to the C++ source, full Python source is provided.  Support is self-help via a forum that we provide.

US$299 annually Maximum 10,000 subscribers/accounts, 10% gross royalty on any commercial revenue from the game.
If the annual subscription is not renewed, the license will be terminated. This includes access to support forums, latest builds, server and tools. If the project generates revenue, the royalty in line with the terms of the License Agreement remain in effect.
Cannot hold more than one type of license at any one time.
To BigWorld Small Commercial or BigWorld Commercial licenses, less existing license fees paid. Any company with less than 25 contractors, part-time or employees,

What is included?

The Indie and Academic editions of BigWorld Technology are the same (only the licensing agreement changes).  The tools are copy protected, and you are provided with a code to install the tools on 25 machines. Python source is provided for the client scripts. There is no C++ source.  The FMOD sound engine is the only plug-in supported. Support is from the community via a BigWorld run forum.  XML is used for entity persistence.  Not all monitoring features of server are available.  The client has a small "Powered by BigWorld Technology" watermark.

The missing link here vs the commercial package is the server source code, and level of support provided. Support forums are enabled, and you are able to buy direct-interaction support packages for one-on-one time with our developers in blocks of 10 hours.

The client does not have a watermark. XML is used for entity persistence. Not all monitoring features of server are available.

We provide your with a license for a single class of up to 25 students with pre-compiled tools, the Python source to our Fantasy Demo and related assets.
